- Linux started life (I've read) as Minix (I have the textbook for that). This
- was a UNIX look-alike created in a black-box mode -- ie, from documented specs
- of the UNIX OS, but without access (supposedly) to the UNIX source code. A
- result of AT&T deciding UNIX was commercially viable and therefore not
- something to give to universities for free.
