  16. Linux started life (I've read) as Minix (I have the textbook for that).  This
  17. was a UNIX look-alike created in a black-box mode -- ie, from documented specs
  18. of the UNIX OS, but without access (supposedly) to the UNIX source code.  A
  19. result of AT&T deciding UNIX was commercially viable and therefore not
  20. something to give to universities for free.

  22.         In other words, we'd have the RKMs and all other published notes, and
  23. have to write a look-alike from those.
